....

It was a bit of a late call up but I was off to The Corner Hotel to photograph 3 aussie bands for my Friday night... Calling All Cars are on tour promoting their new album, they bring with them Redcoats and Boy In A Box. I had photographed Redcoats before when they played with another favourite Melbourne band, [ME] and had always been keen on seeing these guys again. I hadn't heard of Boy In A Box, not really my thing and neither was Calling All Cars, but they were both great to photograph, which is the reason why I went....

Willie Nelson

You may remember I shot the Wagons at the Forum last month, you also may remember that I was one of three videographers too - finally we get to see if the footage was any good, and it looks pretty good to me!

Go (to the right venue) mez

So I went to the Palais Theatre in St Kilda here in Melbourne, expecting to find Gomez playing. All I found was a dark exterior and two drunk people equally as confused as me... We soon figured out that we were at the wrong venue and Gomez was in fact playing at the Palace in Melbourne CBD, I had thought of offering them a ride into the city but decided not to as I was pretty sure they wouldn't stop talking the whole way in - and I could tell from our brief encounter that it wasn't going to be interesting.

So anyway - I got to the PALACE in time to catch most the support band Leader Cheetah, I can't say I was really paying much attention to them as I was still angry at paying $10 for about 15minutes parking in St Kilda and having to high tail it to the city where I got to pay a further $9 but they received a warm reaction from the crowd.

Gomez appeared and it was all on - three songs - GO! it was over pretty quick and we were escorted from the photographers pit and out the back. Unlike The National, who escorted me from the building after my three songs we were allowed to stay for the gig. I caught maybe 5 songs, but thought that the one I wanted to hear was probably gona be an encore so I left...

just like that.

Dananadzdeathraysanananathegrowlananackroyd

Those who know me know that I am pretty hardcore. That's why I was photographing a gig on a Monday night while the rest of you were knitting doily's at home in front of the heater with a rug on your lap and slippers on.

the plural of ibis is NOT ibii

It was the 2nd time in 34 years that I have been impressed by a band from Perth, and they both had a touch of Tom Waits going on about them - The Growl were first up and I quite liked them, the place was almost empty so a lot of people missed out on that one. Suckers.

Next up were Dz Deathrays. A two piece from Brisbane. Fucking pretty good if you ask me. Kinda like.

um.

Dananananaykroyd must have snorted all the coke in Melbourne before coming on stage. Bouncing around on the stage, off the stage. On the stage.

Off the stage.

Anyway, apart from the left looking at the stage singers mic not working for a few songs, they were great. Come to think of it I could hardly hear either singer. But I had earplugs in which probably looks gay, but try getting to sleep with eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
