2012

Rolling in fashionably late with this 2012 in review but at least you can start sleeping at night again..

See my best of 2011 here.

It's interesting looking back on this year, it started off normally but it's ended with a different mindset. I shoot bands for online publications 95% of the time. I am moving away from that and working at getting any band gigs myself (my first one this year is the Big Day Out!) there won't be any silly amounts of photos that I need to upload... I won't have to worry about who will like the processing I choose to do. I hope to bring more artistic live photos to you instead of the tack-sharp-technically-perfect photos you see on other sites. And also other deviations into the more creepy side of thing! stay tuned! OMG! GIMMENERVES!

January
I had my first ever Bob Log III experience. He had me at 'clap your tits' so I was very keen to shoot this for the AU review. What a performer, I have seen him a couple of times since then and they were just as enjoyable... I am happy he calls Melbourne home for part of the year.

February
I was lucky enough to get into a band and find out they were about to play in Melbourne, which is not usually how it goes. Yuck are awesome, I love these guys - I did not receive a photo pass but I took some shots on my phone and get a couple of crackers... (just a side note, the Bob Log photo was also taken on my phone)

Miss Sharah

A nun!

We were trying to nut out some ideas for a nun shoot and the idea of a nana sort-of setting was raised. Ben said he had a place in mind, I asked him if it was nana, his reply "It's as nana as fuck". And he was right....
Another shoot down for Horror Sleaze and Trash. This time with the lovely Miss Sharah, and she was a pleasure to take photos of. Asking Ben to get in the photo is like saying WALKIES to a dog (in the nicest possible way, Ben)

So I'll let the photos do the talking I guess?

Do photos talk?

I dunno.

cupcakes flickr and facebook

It's a funny story how I met Ben Smith.

I saw a photo a contact on flickr took of a sticker Ben made advertising his website and got in contact. He asked if I'd like to take some pics for him at some stage (of course I wanted to).

That was 12 months and 1 day ago!  Good things take time according to the old men on the cheese adverts.

So anyway, Ben finally said he had someone local who was keen on a shoot and would I like to do it.  Having only done one other shoot with like this, I was worried about it (IT being fucking IT up) but this is something I am keen on doing more of, so what the hell, I'm in!
We had a get together as no one had actually met eachother, we all got on well and now we just needed to find a kitchen that was old and awesome.

Enter facebook. Facebook is a new interactive game where you get to stalk people you went to school with and make sure that their life isn't all that great, even though they thought they were awesome when they were 16. And probably thought you were a bit strange. But look at me now.

I kinda sort of but not really knew Rebecca Houlden from meeting her when we were both shooting a gig, we were facebook friends and she replied when I put the word out. She has a kitchen. It's old. It's got an old oven. It's also got pink cupboards!

Everything came together nice and easy - the shoot was cool, we were in and out in a couple of hours.
